Welcome and Orientation Session

1a. What is the purpose of an orientation session?
A:
The monthly ‘meet and greet’ sessions are for LGBT newcomers to discuss immigration issues and share settlement experiences in a welcoming and safe environment. Light refreshments are served, and participants are provided with the “Welcome to Canada: What You Should Know” kit.

1b. How much does it cost to come to an orientation?
A:
It’s free!

1c. Who attends the orientation sessions?
A:
The sessions are for newly arrived immigrants who self-identify as LGBT.  Some people want to discuss housing or employment, while others seek to develop social networks.

1d. Are your services open to non-LGBT individuals?
A:
Our services are intended for LGBT newcomers but ALL are welcome.

1e. Are there speakers at the monthly sessions?
A:
We plan to have guest speakers at our sessions. If you have suggestions for a topic or guest speakers to recommend, please feel free to contact us by e-mail.

1f. Where will the sessions be held?
A:
The ACAS office is located at 33 Isabella Street, Suite 107. Occasionally, we might meet at a different venue to accommodate larger audiences but will notify participants in advance.

1g. What if I don't speak English?
A:
No worries.  Please let us know what language services you require.  The settlement program coordinator will make arrangements in advance to have language interpreters available for participants.
